Patronato Pro Niños Mobile Dental Vans Project

Every weekday morning at 7:00 a.m., Patronato Mobile Dental Vans depart San Miguel de Allende to visit three of the hundreds of villages needing dental services. The next day they will return to the same community until every child receives the care they need. In a typical month our 4 dentists provide a combined average of 700 consultations.

In advance of the treatment, each child is required to first watch a brief video on preventative dental care. This is followed by an interactive educational presentation in which our dentist talks not only about the importance of brushing their teeth, but also the benefit of a more nutritional diet which is not based on sugar and low calorie food (i.e. junk food).

The dentists use props for their presentations. The puppets they use, which have very large teeth, were actually donated by a group of Canadian nursing students. The dentists also have large poster boards that are used to help the children, and the parents, identify which foods are better for their oral health. Then, after the dental treatment is complete, each child receives his/her own toothbrush and a tube of toothpaste.

While the dental vans are in a village, Patronato's doctor, psychologist, and a fourth dentist, see children at our clinic in San Miguel de Allende.

Amistad Canada has partnered with Patronato for an exciting two-part project:

1. Expansion of mobile dental services - Canadian donations to this project will be used to buy a new fourth! mobile fully-equipped dental van

2. Maintenance of our mobile dental units – Canadian donations to this project will also be used as support maintenance of the existing mobile units. This preventive care is essential in order to ensure the ongoing delivery of our existing dental services.
