Por los Niños de Zijuatanejo A.C. has been providing scholarships and healthy meals to disadvantaged children of the resort community since 2005. It works with local governments, Rotary Clubs and other international charities. It began with the idea of helping one community to build a classroom – 15 years later, PNZ has built 131 classrooms, bathrooms, kitchens and playgrounds, including 14 new schools. Its nutrition program feeds 30,000+ breakfasts and lunches a year to hungry students, and it has helped to provide hundreds of scholarships.
The AMISTAD CANADA Zihautanejo Education and Nutrition Support Project aims to raise $12,000 per year toward increasingly the number of scholarships and another $15,000 so that more children will receive a nutritious lunch.
The all-volunteer organization provides more than 30,000 school lunches a year and has awarded almost one-thousand scholarships.
