Jóvenes Adelante accepts students only when funds have been raised or pledged to pay their scholarships for their entire university career, roughly four to five years, for entering freshmen.
Jóvenes Adelante, A.C. enables talented, disadvantaged Mexican youth from San Miguel de Allende and its surrounding communities to both obtain a university education and develop life skills essential to professional and personal success. The majority of our students are from struggling families in “el campo” and the outskirts of San Miguel where, even for the brightest students, the pursuit of a university degree and a professional career are not realistic options.
Jóvenes Adelante provides valuable support beyond financial assistance. Each student receives a laptop computer. Mentors provide friendship, encouragement and coaching. Life-skills workshops help students to manage their money, time and relationships. If students need remedial work or help with current classes, we provide tutoring. If they encounter bigger issues, professional counseling is available. Our 170 graduates to date are a testament to the success of JA’s multi-faceted program,
Jóvenes has supported more nearly 300 students studying at more than 28 schools across Mexico in fields spanning accounting, architecture, business, computers, education, engineering, biotechnology, electrical, forestry, geology, law, mechanical, mechatronics, medicine, pharmacology, psychology and tourism.
Recent graduates include the head butler at a luxury resort, a geologist at a copper mining company, and an entrepreneur with her own nutrition consulting business. Jóvenes students have also participated in educational exchange programs in Canada and Europe.
Jóvenes Adelante accepts students only when funds have been raised or pledged to pay their scholarships for their entire university career, roughly four to five years, for entering freshmen. The amount to sponsor a student is $10,500 CAD and includes the cost of a new laptop.
We hope you will assist us in increasing the number of university graduates in San Miguel. Higher education not only improves the students’ lives and the lives of their families and communities but also assists Mexico in continuing its economic growth by increasing the number of educated Mexicans in the workforce.
The Amistad Canada – Jóvenes Adelante Education Project allows Canadians to help the best young Mexicans with the greatest financial need not only graduate but be prepared to succeed professionally AND receive a tax receipt in return!
