Pro Musica is the largest chamber music promoter in Latin America with a near year-round schedule of activities, all in San Miguel de Allende. We have been bringing world-class classical music here for 25 years and it continues to be our mission and our goal to stage concerts, opera, and related events in the city so that residents and visitors alike may enjoy the best of both established musicians with international reputations and the rising stars of tomorrow. Our artists come from a wide variety of countries, including Mexico, Canada, the US, Europe, and Japan. We encourage Mexican musicians and singers wherever possible; for example, our annual opera is sung solely by Mexican singers and the orchestra is also entirely Mexican.
Our ticket prices for concerts have always been significantly below those charged by other classical concerts in San Miguel and this is made possible by our generous patrons and their donations, which is also what supports our education outreach activities. These outreach programs are a large part of what we do, and we devote a substantial portion of our annual budget to the Pro Musica Youth Orchestra, again with entirely Mexican musicians; our music teaching to underprivileged young children in the local Otomi community and, not least, our bi-annual Young Mexican Musician Competition.
