JÓVENES ADELANTE- 2024 Selection Process

…The 377 applications are only just starting to be analyzed, but the merit already appears to stands out. This year´s primary goal in our “solicitud” of students was to strongly increase the quality of our applicants while maintaining our capacity – hopefully attracting fewer but stronger candidates that more specifically align with our newly updated mission:

Jóvenes Adelante finds and invests in university education for students with high-impact potential, but lacking the privilege needed to unlock it.

We are setting higher expectations not only for our incoming class of 2024, but for the classes of 2025 and 2026. Here is an example of students we are attracting!

“I am currently part of the Mexican Society of Biomedical Engineering, Autonomous University Queretaro…, a group of biomedical engineering students who represent our university. I am in charge of communication and together with my teammates we are in charge of bringing the university community closer to the different conferences on biomedical engineering in the country, as well as organizing talks and presentations with different companies or researchers, all of this with the aim of getting the community closer and closer to the workplace and being able to say which final line to take.

I am a person who likes to help, likes innovation and development, I like to propose ideas and carry them out even though people usually say that it will be difficult…because for me engineering, especially biomedical, is a great opportunity to achieve changes in the health of society, changes that benefit and often bring joy back to several families.”

– Applicant 2024 (edited and translated)

Early data shows around 1/3 of our new applicants are from Dolores Hidalgo and Comonfort, validating our efforts to expand our outreach to neighboring cities, and that 2/3 are female. They range from applicants just coming out of high school to proven students with only 2 years left in university but struggling to pay costs. JA has decided that many of these 2 year remaining students deserve to make it to the finish line, and with your help we can help!

What comes next?

Initial applications are analyzed and sorted to see how they align with our minimal requirements. Then a call goes out to the top candidates to send in full applications which are due in early March. From there we proceed to the interview stages. Now is the time to consider what is possible for you to contribute:  a full undergrad sponsorship a half sponsorship (JA manages this) pool your funds with others (JA manages this) a new master’s student a new laptop or professional credentialing   Imagine for the moment that we need the equivalent of 80 half sponsors. That is a commitment of only CA$100 per month for 60 months, or CA$1200 per year. (based on current rate of exchange)

While it seems like a lot, if all of our 200 + supporters – whether sponsors, mentors or EFL tutors were to speak with their circle of friends and acquaintances and get them interested in JA, we could reach the goal quite quickly because we all have amazing experiences and stories to share about the students we know!
